Alaska

The Fairbanks North Star Borough Assembly is set to consider reinstating a $70,000 grant for the Fairbanks Economic Development Corporation as part of resolving a long-standing disagreement over a joint economic development agreement with the city of Fairbanks, which has recently signed off on the revised agreement.

Arizona

The National Science Foundation's Southwest Sustainability Innovation Engine event, held at Arizona State University, brought together leaders from academia, government, and industry to boost regional sustainability efforts through economic development in clean energy, water security, and carbon capture.

California

The Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco has awarded $7.3 million in economic development grants to 84 nonprofit organizations across Arizona, California, and Nevada under its AHEAD Program, marking an 82% increase from the previous year.

Margarita de Escontrias is set to retire at the end of the year as chief executive officer of Cabrillo Economic Development Corporation after 11 years, with current chief financial officer Victoria Brady stepping in to fill the role starting in 2025.

Katherine Lu Acquista, the former finance director of the San Diego Regional Economic Development Corporation, was sentenced to one year and a day in prison for embezzling over $400,000 from the organization by manipulating its accounting system and misusing its financial resources.

Colorado

Marcie Willard has been appointed as the new director of economic development for the City of Loveland, stepping up from her role as acting director following a nationwide search to replace Kelly Jones-Sage, who resigned earlier this year.
