Through support from the Economic Development Administration, Argonne National Laboratory developed the Economic Development Capacity Index (EDCI) as a tool to assist economic development stakeholders by characterizing local economic development capacity across the United States.

For communities, Economic Development Districts, and other local or regional stakeholders, it provides a data-driven estimation of capacity, including relative strengths and potential areas for growth or maturation across five capacity areas composed of 53 unique indicators.

TThe EDCI brings together the indicators across five major capacity areas:

  • Financial
  • Human Capital
  • Industry Composition
  • Infrastructure
  • Institutions and partnerships

I created the sample report below for Galveston County, Texas.
