A Beam of Light - Media, Tourism & Economic Development:
We show that a 10% increase in tourists’ expenditure translates into an increase in municipal income by 4.7%. All in all, the paper suggests that entertainment media might be a powerful advertising tool to attract tourists and, in turn, to provide an economic boost to movie locations. More generally, our findings point out that tourism might be a powerful driver of economic development.
Toward a more Inclusive and Resilient Economic Development Paradigm:
Resilience needs to be considered more expansively, as a place’s capacity to weather economic and public health threats and even more broadly, “as the capacity of residents, communities, institutions, businesses and systems to survive, adapt and grow,” no matter what kinds of chronic stresses and acute shocks they experience.
