Alabama
The City of Birmingham has submitted a $24.5 million federal investment grant proposal named “Reinvest Birmingham” aimed at creating workforce training centers, childcare facilities, entrepreneurship development, and more to support North Birmingham, Northside, Smithfield, and Pratt communities (Coreata’ Houser, Deputy Director of the Department of Innovation & Economic Opportunity).
Conecuh County’s Bioeconomy Development Opportunity Zone has received an ‘A’ rating, signifying high potential for biomass development due to a strong feedstock supply chain, infrastructure, and low default risk (Jessica Dent - City of Evergreen and Conecuh County; Jordan Solomon - Ecostrat; Brenda Tuck - Alabama Department of Commerce).
Arizona
The Peoria City Council was presented with a five-year economic development strategic plan focused on creating jobs, increasing sales tax revenue, addressing workforce gaps, and enhancing tourism (Jennifer Stein - Economic Development Services director).
Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs and Canadian Trade Minister Mary Ng announced the opening of a new Canadian trade office in Arizona, which aims to strengthen bilateral trade, economic development, and foreign direct investment collaboration between Arizona and Canada.
Arkansas
A newly-launched University of Arkansas website connects businesses, non-profits, and other organizations with university resources, such as hiring students and graduates, accessing research, training workforce, and finding office space (Clint O'Neal, Arkansas Economic Development Commission; Mike Malone, University of Arkansas).
The Mountain Home City Council will meet Thursday night to discuss entering into an economic development contract with the North Central Arkansas Chamber Foundation.
California
Vermont Slauson Economic Development Corporation has been selected as one of 17 new Women's Business Centers by the U.S. Small Business Administration, offering coaching, mentoring, networking, and other resources to help women entrepreneurs thrive, with support from Wells Fargo.
