Keep Renewing Your Domain Name, Forever

The DMO (destination marketing organization) in Loraine County, Iowa forgot to renew their domain name, so now the visitors to VisitLorainCounty.com are directed instead to an Indonesian poker website.

Oops.

Don't let this happen to you.  Spend the $20 every year, or better yet the $200 for ten years at a time.

Also, if you ever decide to switch to a "better" domain name, keep renewing that old one forever.  Redirect it to the new one.  Never let a URL go bad.  Who knows when someone will happen upon your old URL on old marketing material, or even on the web somewhere.

The "old" adage that everything lives forever on the Internet is only true if we all do our part, and keep paying forever.
